A wide range of data tapes and cartridges
Do you need a durable solution for storing data for personal or professional use? You can opt for data tape, a simple and effective way of keeping your back-ups for a long time. You can find a wide selection on Xepublic right now.
What are the advantages of data tapes and cartridges for computer storage?
When you think of storing computer data, the first thing you probably think of is hard disks, whether external or internal. However, you may not be aware that tape recording is also possible. Tapes are less expensive than hard disks and do not consume energy for cooling or power supply. What's more, this type of medium protects your data for several decades, whereas a hard disk will have difficulty in guaranteeing it for more than a decade or so. Despite their relatively old-fashioned nature, data tapes and cartridges are a perfectly feasible solution, particularly for businesses, to which manufacturers are promising ever greater storage volume.
What data tapes and cartridges are available?
You can choose from a wide range of tapes, depending on the manufacturer, including:
- exabyte or Imation data cartridges, among the main manufacturers, or HP, Dell, Sony and IBM data cartridges, offering different storage capacities,
- ancillary accessories such as cleaning cassettes, useful for maintaining essential tape drives,
- cartridges or batches of tapes in various formats: classic, mini, LTO, etc.
How much data can a tape or cartridge store?
The amount of data that can be stored on data tapes is likely to vary greatly depending on the product. Some tape cartridges can store just a few dozen megabytes, while others can store over a TB of files. The LTO-7 range of data tapes is one of the most powerful on the market, offering up to 15 terabytes of data compressed using LTO-7, which in terms of performance corresponds to a high-capacity external hard drive or 40 Windows/MacBook laptops. This means you can store several thousand films and around 65 million pages of documents. Tape storage is therefore an ideal option for large volumes of data.
